Phenology of the North Calotte

Phenology of the North Calotte is an initiative aimed at stimulating schools to actively take part in nature observations and registrations. It addresses temporal variation in onset of phenological stages in annual natural cycles. The climate is an important factor determining the start of annual natural cycles, and yearly registrations of onset of phenological stages will provide time series that will be useful when evaluating impact of climate effects on ecosystems. Investigation of phenology data improves the ecological knowledge and is also useful for evaluating management strategies of natural resources.

Learning objective

Yearly gather phenological data and understand the relationship between the climate and natural cycles. To contribute to a phenology database for a larger region for use to examine regional as well as temporal differences in phenological events.

Field

Register the date of various phenological events in spring and autumn.

Show results

The data contributed by participants are available on the results section of this project and can be used for comparisons across years and regions.
