Suggestions for tasks for web report
1: Compare your fish results with other results of the same fish species in the Global POP project;
both on a wet and lipid based weight.
Are there large differences in concentration on a lipid based weight?
2 a): The maximum limit for dioxin and dioxin-like PCBs in fish (except
for eel) is 8 pg WHO TEQ/g fresh weight. Do you see any sample in the
Global POP database that is close to or exceed this limit?
2 b): The maximum limit for dioxins alone is 4 pg WHO TEQ/g fresh weight.
Do you see any sample in the Global POP database that is close to or exceed this limit?
3: Try to find out if you have fish intake recommendations in your country and if
these recommendations are for specific fish species and/or geographic areas.
4: The tolerable weekly intake (TWI) established by EU's Scientific Committee on Food (SCF) is 14 pg TEQ/kg body weight/week (SCF, 2001). How much can a person eat of your fish per day?
For body weight: calculate the average body weight in your school class or use 60 kilogram.
Make the calculation with the highest measured concentration (POP level (pg TE/g) in your fish?
